Burbage Meats is a third-generation butcher shop that began with W.A. Burbage Jr. and his wife in 1953. From the 1980’s, W.A.’s son, Marion Burbage operated it until 2017. Over the past 70 years, it has evolved. Originally, Burbage Meats was a wholesale slaughterhouse and meat-packing facility, but it has become so much more.

When sisters Melissa Burbage and Felecia Burbage-Hodges, the granddaughters of W.A Burbage Jr., set out to reinvent it, they wanted to do something amazing for the Charleston community. They think you’ll love the new location of Burbage Meats Butchery + Provisions.

Why Burbage Meats?

It is a rare occurrence where a butcher has the meat-cutting knowledge but also the first-hand experience of the slaughtering processes. Most butchers are trained through culinary courses or in-store training at grocery stores. With over 30 years of combined butchery and slaughtering experience, we know the insides and outsides of various animals that provide meat products. Our customers will benefit from our in-depth knowledge of the entire process.

Not only do we sell locally-sourced meats, we feature an assortment of locally-sourced “SC Certified” products along with products made in Georgia and North Carolina. 

Most grocers and meat markets do not readily disclose the sourcing or country of origin of their meats to customers. Not only do we provide this to our customers but we proudly and boldly show where our products are sourced from.
